W Maroku w 2022 roku odnotowano znaczące różnice w rozpowszechnieniu palenia tytoniu wśród osób dorosłych w wieku 15 lat i starszych w zależności od płci. Odsetek palących mężczyzn wyniósł aż 25,3%, podczas gdy wśród kobiet był on znacznie niższy i wynosił jedynie 1%. Ogólna częstość palenia w populacji dorosłych wyniosła 13,1%. Szacuje się, że w tym samym roku liczba osób palących w Maroku wynosiła około 3 568 639. Dla porównania, dane z 2020 roku wskazują na nieco niższą ogólną częstość palenia, wynoszącą 12,1%, przy czym wśród mężczyzn było to 24%, a wśród kobiet 0,7%. W 2018 roku odsetek dorosłych palących codziennie wynosił 11,6%, z czego 22,3% stanowili mężczyźni, a 1,2% kobiety. Z powodu palenia tytoniu w 2021 roku zmarło łącznie 21 574 osób, w tym 17 095 mężczyzn oraz 4 479 kobiet, co stanowiło odpowiednio 7,54% wszystkich zgonów, 10,91% w przypadku mężczyzn i 3,46% wśród kobiet. Dane te uwidaczniają utrzymujące się wyzwania zdrowia publicznego związane z paleniem tytoniu w Maroku i wskazują na potrzebę prowadzenia ukierunkowanych działań oraz wdrażania odpowiedniej polityki w celu ograniczenia nierówności i zmniejszenia szkód zdrowotnych spowodowanych przez palenie.
