Frequently asked questions about smoking, nicotine and e-cigarettes

Should e-cigarettes / vaping products and other safer nicotine products be regulated?

Should e-cigarettes / vaping products and other safer nicotine products be regulated?

Yes, of course. Like any consumer products, e-cigarettes/ vaping products and other safer nicotine products should be regulated to ensure they are safe for people to use. But regulation needs to be proportionate.

Cost or accessibility barriers should not be put in the way that would stop adult smokers from switching. The evidence is clear and consistent that e-cigarettes and other products which do not rely on combustion to release nicotine are a safe and effective means for smokers to quit or move away from smoking. Therefore, it makes public health sense to ensure these products are as accessible and as affordable as possible.
