Frequently asked questions about smoking, nicotine and e-cigarettes

Are e-cigarettes bad for you/is vaping bad for you?

Are e-cigarettes bad for you/is vaping bad for you?

This is only half the question. The rest should read ‘compared to cigarettes?’

When you compare using e-cigarettes or vaping products to smoking tobacco cigarettes, the science is clear: e-cigarettes or vapes are much safer.

Setting fire to any tobacco product, whether cigarettes, pipes or cigars, releases thousands of toxins. Many of these toxins cause cancer. It is the combustion (burning) which produces and releases these toxins. This is what makes tobacco products so dangerous. Any way of using nicotine which does not involve burning is significantly safer. Public Health England consistently states that e-cigarettes, which simply heat nicotine liquid, are at least 95 per cent less harmful than traditional cigarettes.
