En Uzbekistán, la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco entre adultos de 15 años o más, según datos de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) para 2022, se estimó en un 10.6%, lo que representa una leve disminución en comparación con la tasa de prevalencia de 12.3% registrada en 2019. El consumo de tabaco fue considerablemente mayor entre los hombres, ya que en 2022, el 20.4% de los hombres adultos se identificaron como fumadores, frente al 1% de las mujeres adultas. El número total de fumadores en Uzbekistán en 2022 se aproximó a 2,543,155 personas. Como referencia, en 2017 la prevalencia diaria de consumo de tabaco entre adultos fue del 9.7%, con una prevalencia del 18.9% en hombres y del 1% en mujeres. Por otro lado, los datos de 2021 señalan que el 8.51% de todas las muertes en Uzbekistán se atribuyeron al tabaquismo, con una proporción mayor en hombres (12.79%) en comparación con las mujeres (3.38%). El número total de fallecimientos relacionados con el consumo de tabaco en 2021 fue de 16,996. Estas cifras ponen de manifiesto los persistentes desafíos de salud pública que representa el tabaquismo en Uzbekistán y reflejan la necesidad de mantener los esfuerzos para reducir el impacto del tabaco en la salud.
