En Ucrania, la prevalencia del tabaquismo entre adultos es considerable. Según datos de 2022, 7,897,750 personas de 15 años o más eran fumadoras, lo que representa una prevalencia general de tabaquismo en adultos del 22%, con una marcada diferencia de género: el 38.3% de los hombres y el 8.5% de las mujeres fumaban. En comparación, en 2020, se estimaba un número mayor de fumadores, con 8,462,024 personas, lo que correspondía a una prevalencia general del 23.3% en adultos, 40.4% en hombres y 9% en mujeres. Como referencia, en 2016 la prevalencia diaria de tabaquismo en adultos fue de 20.1%, con un 35.9% en hombres y 7% en mujeres. En cuanto a mortalidad atribuible al tabaquismo, en 2021 se registraron 74,279 muertes relacionadas con el consumo de tabaco, de las cuales 12,290 correspondieron a mujeres y 61,989 a hombres. Las muertes asociadas al tabaquismo representaron el 9.94% de todos los fallecimientos en el país, con un desglose por género de 3.2% en mujeres y 17.05% en hombres. Estas cifras ponen de manifiesto el importante reto de salud pública que representa el tabaco en Ucrania.
