En 2021, se estimaba que en Indonesia había 6 millones de personas que vapeaban, lo que corresponde a una prevalencia del 3% entre adultos, con un 0.3% de mujeres y un 5.8% de hombres. Indonesia ha adoptado una postura regulatoria favorable hacia los cigarrillos electrónicos; aunque se clasifican como productos de tabaco, se consideran bienes de consumo. Por lo tanto, es legal usar, vender y publicitar productos para vapear, y las personas pueden comprarlos en línea para uso personal. Se permite la importación de productos para vapear y nicotina con fines comerciales, y no se exige receta médica para adquirirlos. Sin embargo, existen ciertas regulaciones: los fabricantes deben incluir advertencias sanitarias en el etiquetado y respetar límites sobre el contenido de nicotina. Además, el impuesto especial sobre productos para vapear oscila entre el 10% y el 50% del impuesto aplicado a los cigarrillos convencionales. El uso de vapeadores está prohibido en espacios públicos y la edad mínima para adquirir estos productos es de 21 años. En general, Indonesia ofrece un entorno regulatorio favorable al vapeo, brindando a los fumadores una alternativa menos perjudicial a los cigarrillos combustibles.
