As of 2018, Mali had approximately 19,100 current users of traditional smokeless tobacco. The overall adult current use prevalence of this product was 0.2%, but among women, it was 1.3%. From regulatory standpoint, traditional smokeless tobacco is allowed and regulated as a tobacco product in the country. Thus, the use and sale of these products are legal, but online purchase is not permitted. There is a requirement for health warnings on packaging, and a ban on all advertising is in place. In addition, the minimum legal age for purchasing smokeless tobacco is 18 years, reflecting efforts to control youth access.
