In Libya, based on the most recent data as of 2009, around 53,500 people were current users of traditional smokeless tobacco. The adult use prevalence was 1.2%, with a notable gender gap: 2.2% of men were users of smokeless tobacco compared to just 0.1% of women. Daily use was 0.7% overall, with 1.2% among males. The product is legally allowed and regulated as a tobacco product. It is also legal to sell, use, and purchase smokeless tobacco online. A full ban on advertising is in place and health warnings on packaging are required. The minimum legal age for purchase is 18 years.
