In Iraq, there were approximately 45,700 current users of traditional smokeless tobacco in 2018. The adult prevalence was reported to be 0.2%, with no reported use among females and 0.4% among males.
The product is legally allowed and regulated as a tobacco product. Under these regulations, it is legal to use, buy, and sell traditional smokeless tobacco in the country. However, there are some restrictions in place. All advertising of smokeless tobacco is banned and packaging must include health warnings. The minimum age for purchasing is 18 years.
