In 2017, approximately 152,800 adults in Burundi were current users of traditional smokeless tobacco. The prevalence of current use among adults was 2.7 percent. Traditional smokeless tobacco is allowed and regulated as a tobacco product in Burundi. It is legal to sell and use the product. However, health warnings on packaging are required, and a minimum age restriction of 18 years is enforced for sales.
